About Community Impact
As Robert Lewis describes in his book, The Church of Irresistible Influence, Hillside believes that we should be an irresistible influence on our local community. It is drawn on the words in Matthew 5:16 – “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
We initiated this influence with our first Life Giving Weekend in November 2007. The results have been transforming, revolutionary, and often surprising. We are not only reconnecting with the people and needs of our community as “salt and light” (Matthew 5:13-14), but we are also reconnecting with a long-neglected part of our Christianity: the part that believes that the Great Commandment to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39) is just as essential to the spread of the gospel and to the sanctification of our church members as the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). We believe that the church should connect with the community in a way that makes it both real and reachable. We believe that the church can only accomplish this by turning outward and loving those around us the way Jesus loved his world: not just in words, but with deeds.
Hillside is doing various events/service in the community from our annual Life Giving Weekend to our monthly support of Union Gospel Mission. To see the ongoing service opportunities go to our website at www.yourhillside.com and/or visit The Community Impact Corner section of our monthly newsletter.
If you have any questions about the service opportunities or have an idea of an event/service that we could do for our community, send us an e-mail at communityimpact@yourhillside.com
