Project San Antonio Shoebox
Hillside’s Youth Ministry, Echo, sends groups throughout the year to minister with Joe and Lede Anguiano in San Antonio. Pastor Joe’s ministry is called “Young Vision.” Young Vision feels called to minister to the children on the East side of the city. As they reach out to kids that live in the projects, these kids find a church to call home and are able to experience the love of Christ. Our Children’s Ministry partners with our Youth by packing shoeboxes with small gifts to be handed out by Pastor Joe and his volunteers to these children from the projects. Meet Isaac, Josue and Gabriel's Corner...
Our church partners with a ministry in Honduras called Llamado Eterno-Eternity's call. The missionary leader of that ministry, Jim Faber, has put us in touch with a young man named Gabby and his family. Gabby came to Christ several years back and now uses his time and limited resources to minister to the people in his neighborhood, one of the poorest in the city of Comayagua, Honduras.
Our Children's Ministry has adopted gabby's street-we call it gabriel's corner. we serve with him in three ways.
1) gabriel's corner vbs - Gabby and his family regularly gather the kids in their neighborhood for fun activities, a snack and a Bible story. Our kids support this by purchasing supplies for this street VBS.
2) isaac deras- Isaac was born with cerebral palsy and his loving parents, Juan Carlos and Letty, need help to afford proper medical treatment as well as the basic necessities of life. Isaac's birthday is June 23, 2005. His family lives down the street from Gabby.
3) Josue figurua - Like Isaac, Josue (Joshua in English) has cerebral palsy. His family also lives about a block from Gabby. Josue's birthday is June 15, 2000. Affording medical care is a big challenge for his family because Josue's step father, Christian, wears a prosthetic leg after losing his in a train accident. He cannot work. Josue's mom, Nancy, has to stay in their 2 room house to care for his needs. She earns some income by doing laundry and simple clerical work at home.
Our kids have committed to send $150 each month toward the VBS and towards the medical needs of Isaac and Josue.
Please help by bringing your financial gifts and lifting up these needs in your prayers.
James 1:27 "Pure and lasting religion in the sight of God our Father means that we must care for orphans and widows in their trouble, and refuse to let the world corrupt us."
