Roles of an ELDER at Hillside
The elders are the spiritual leaders of this local community of God’s people, providing pastoral oversight for the people and biblical direction for the ministry (1 Peter 5:1-3; Acts 6:4, 14:23; 20:28).They are responsible to and for the congregation and accountable to the Senior Pastor.
A. Model godliness.
1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9
B. Providing the overall vision and mission for the church.

C. Caretaking and oversight of the staff.
1 Peter 5:1-4
D. Ensuring an appropriate and accurate diet of biblical instruction.

E. Setting ministry and administrative policy.

F. Dealing with discipline and conflict management.

G. Praying for the spiritual health and well-being of the congregation.

4. What does being an Elder mean to you? Very simply, I love the church, and I love being a part of its leadership. God has richly blessed the leadership of this church.

1. What is your profession? Feel free to elaborate if one word is not enough. I am a Paramedic/Supervisor with Careflite. I have been in this line of work for 25 years. Before I moved to Texas 8 years ago I was a Captain in the Fire Department and also a paramedic firefighter.
2. How long have you been at Hillside? Since 2004
3. What is your family structure? (Wife – name, Kids – names, Grandkids, etc) I have a wife,Lynetta and 2 daughters Natalie and Jessica
4. What does being an Elder mean to you? I feel that being an elder is a great responsibility, helping to lead God’s people in the direction they should be going. I am glad that I share it with 6 other brothers.
5. Other Thoughts: Hillside is a great place to come to know who Jesus is and also a place which fosters our growth to become just like him.

2. How long have you been at Hillside? We’ve been at Hillside since early 1996.
3. What is your family structure? (Wife – name, Kids – names, Grandkids, etc) My wife is Linda – we’ve been married since 1985. Our kids are Kristofer, Kjerstin, Kari, Konrad, Kielor.

- I have been an attorney for thirty years; the last twenty for the Federal Aviation Administration. (Yes it’s really true that pilots must sometimes be reminded to remain awake in the cockpit.)
2. How long have you been at Hillside? We were one of the original families in the church.
3. What is your family structure? (Wife – name, Kids – names, Grandkids, etc) I am married to Cindy, who operates an accounting business and also serves as Hillside’s Treasurer. We have three adult children– all married and scattered about the country. We also have a two year old grandson.
4. What does being an Elder mean to you? I am too often reminded of my need for forgiveness, meaning and direction. I have experienced Jesus as the fulfillment of these needs and am convinced that the Church is the primary instrument for His action in our world. Being an Elder means working toward providing an environment where people are introduced to Jesus and then grow closer to Him in both affection and character.

- I am a Financial Advisor at UBS Financial Services

4. What does being an Elder mean to you? To me, being an elder means a great responsibility to love, care for and serve the church body of Hillside, as well as for the individuals that make up that body.

- Entrepreneur/Business Consultant. I help companies meet stakeholder objectives in strategic planning, finance, operations, marketing, sales and distribution. In addition, I represent companies for raising capital and investors looking for opportunities. Over the past 22 years, my clients range from start-up businesses through Fortune 100 companies.
2. How long have you been at Hillside? My wife, Celeste, and I helped start the church in 1995.
3. What is your family structure? (Wife – name, Kids – names, Grandkids, etc) Wife: Celeste, Son: Jason, Daughter and Son-in-Law: Kristan and Michael Schilling, Grandson: Austin and Granddaughter: Ashlyn
4. What does being an Elder mean to you? Time gives us perspective on life and being asked to serve as an Elder is one of the most important callings I have had. I am constantly amazed at how God impacts lives and how He intertwines our paths to move us to Him. Being an Elder is constantly humbling because so many people look to us for insight, guidance and support within God’s economy. Being a part of Hillside, helping the church grow, and impacting people with God’s promises is incredibly exciting.

- Director of Sales for a Sleep Diagnostic Company
2. How long have you been at Hillside? Since the beginning. We were one of the initial 10 families when this fellowship started. It is exciting to see where God has taken us and where He is yet to lead us.

Married to my lovely bride, Carolyn, 3 Children – Kristin (Cothran), Kyle and Kory, 2 special in-laws – Wil Cothran and Angie Wakefield, 5 precious grandchildren – Ryan David, Lauren Cate, Brody, Hudson and Landon
4. What does being an Elder mean to you? An honor. A privilege. A tremendous responsibility. Its a ministry where one is called by God. And it is a worthy calling. It’s loving leadership. As entrusted leaders of this local community we take seriously providing pastoral oversight for our families and the biblical direction for the ministry.
