Missions
Missions at Hillside can be described by two words, “focused relationships”. At Hillside we have a mission’s philosophy of being focused on only a few missions where we can build relationships with the people to assist them in changing their community for Christ. Currently that focus is in San Antonio and Honduras.
Nationally: SAN ANTONIO
Young Vision
Pastor Joe Anguiano, his wife Letty, and the ministry of Young Vision ministers to children and families on the east side of San Antonio. Every Sunday they take buses into the projects and pick up children to bring them to their church where they can learn of the love of Jesus Christ. They also do events in the community throughout the year to spread the gospel.
For each of the last eight summers, Hillside has taken youth and adults to Young Vision to do a VBS program for the kids, perform construction projects around the church, and provide food and clothing to needy people in the community. We have also done mini-trips the past few years to provide Christmas gifts, meals to needy families in the community, and Easter outreaches. See the Youth Section of this book to see the trips planned for this fall.
Agora Ministries
Agora Ministries focuses on the homeless community
in San Antonio. Pastor Edgar’s (who passed away last year) vision continues at Agora to provide the homeless with food, clothing, and other necessities. Agora also reaches out to the kids in surrounding projects by providing church services, school supplies, and community events. Agora has made an incredible impact in San Antonio and has reached hundreds for Christ! See the Youth Section of this booklet to see the trips planned for this fall.
Globally: HONDURAS
Iglesia Llamado Eterno – Danli, Honduras
During the summer of 2004, Jim Faber connected Hillside with a “church plant” in Danli, Honduras. Danli is near the Nicaragua border, about two hours southeast of the capital city of Tecucigalpa. The Danli church is led by four key families in the community. A few years ago, Arturo, one of the men from these four families, left a good job in the school system in Danli to become the pastor of the church. Hillside has gone to Honduras the past seven summers with groups to do VBS programs, soccer tournaments, construction projects and other ministries in the city. Hillside has partnered with another church in Manchester, NH to purchase land and construct a building on the property. The church began to meet in the building in the spring of 2006. For more information on the next trip planned to Honduras, please contact Matt Eagleston at (817) 946-1238 or click on the Upcoming Missions Events button on this page.
Globally: The Future
Hillside is in the process of pursuing where God might want to lead us elsewhere
in the world. We currently feel a pull to minister to the “poorest of the poor” where the gospel has never gone. We took our first trip to India in 2010 to visit a ministry led by Pastor Varghese and his wife Alice.
Hillside is also considering a relationship with World Vision or other missions organizations to see where God might be leading us to minister. Pastor Pete and Matt Eagleston had the opportunity to travel with World Vision to Swaziland February, 2012 to see how World Vision can connect a church to a very poor area of the world.
