How does HSM impact the community?

San Antonio

For nearly 10 years, Hillside Student Ministry has gone down to the poorest zip code in the U.S. in San Antonio to work with our sister ministries: Young Vision and Agora.

Young Vision church reaches out to the surrounding projects, concentrating their efforts towards children. Pastor Joe and the Young Vision staff go out several times a week, picking up kids from various projects and sharing the Gospel with them. Young Vision also reaches out into the community by holding several events a year including: VBS, a fall festival, free garage sales, Christmas gifts and so much more. Hundreds of kids and adults join Young Vision weekly to hear the Good News and change the community!

Agora Ministries

focuses on the homeless community in San Antonio. Pastor Edgar and his team continually provide the homeless with food, clothing, and other necessities. Agora also reaches out to the kids in surrounding projects by providing church services, school supplies, and community events. Agora has made an incredible impact in San Antonio and has reached hundreds for Christ!

HSM has a heart for San Antonio and we are constantly looking for ways to help out Young Vision and Agora. We take several trips during the year including: An Easter Egg hunt in the spring, a Fall Fest trip in the fall, and Christmas trip to hand out gifts in the winter. We also do a week long trip to help with construction and other needs in the summer. San Antonio trips are life changing events, for the kids who suffer in San Antonio and the kids from Hillside who help to change their lives for Christ! San Antonio Easter Eggstravagana Mission Trip

Partnering with our sister churches in San Antonio, thousands of Easter eggs are collected and transported to San Antonio for a huge community outreach event. This event is an exciting way for the Student Ministry to partner with our Children’s Ministry and church body as each group works to collect eggs filled with non-melting candy. Hillside students travel to San Antonio to serve the community through an amazing outreach program designed to share the good news about Jesus through music, food, fun and of course the Big Hunt.

San Antonio Summer Mission Trip

One of the most impactful trips we participate in is our Summer Mission Trip. This trip encompasses an entire week which includes hosting Vacation Bible School for the kids at both the Young Vision and Agora locations. Our students have the opportunity to journey out into the projects, pick up the neighborhood kids and share Jesus’ light as they teach them about Jesus during VBS. Each participant has the opportunity to work in the community by being involved in selected construction projects.

The opportunities to share Jesus are exhibited in ways such as feeding the homeless that reside under the bridge. The intensity of this trip requires certain requirements. The students must have completed 7th grade, entering 8th grade to participate on a summer mission trip. Training is required to allow for maximum effectiveness and safety.
