Love Til It Hurts, John 13:1-17
Notes
- Read John 13:1-17, & 34-35. John 13:1 says that Jesus "loved them to the end" (to the uttermost). What stood out to you most about the extent or depth of Jesus' love in this passage?
- Jesus is unshakeable in his commitment to serve because he knows his authority and his identity (v. 3), and that he can't lose anything by going lower. How does a secure identity enable someone to serve others sacrificially?
- Peter resists Jesus washing his feet (v. 8). In what ways do you see yourself in Peter, struggling to receive grace, help, or forgiveness? Give some concrete examples.
- Jesus says, "If I do not wash you, you have no share with me" (v. 8). What does this reveal about our continual need to receive grace?
- Pastor Daniel talked about "Thursday Grace" and our ongoing need for Jesus' help. What is one specific area right now where you may be leaving grace on the table?
- When Jesus says he's giving a "new commandment," what is new or novel about the way Jesus says to love one another that is different from how many people define it (v. 34)?
- It's often easier to serve others than to receive help. But how does your willingness to receive grace from Jesus and others actually shape how you give love?
