Easter Sunday
Notes
Read Revelation 1:9-18. When John sees Jesus, he falls to his knees. Have you ever had a moment where God felt overwhelmingly real or present to you? If so, describe what that was like for you. How does knowing that Jesus is alive forever and holds the keys to death and Hades reshape what gives your life purpose? Which part of what Jesus says about himself (“the First and the Last… I died… I am alive forevermore… I have the keys…”) speaks most to you right now? Why? In what ways do people try to build a meaningful life without a true vision of Jesus? What tends to happen when they do? John Gray, in his secular book Straw Dogs, critiques the modern belief that we can create our own meaning. Where are you tempted to “author your own meaning” instead of receiving it from Jesus, and how does this passage call you to surrender that impulse? What would it look like for you to “fall before Jesus” in your life right now in surrender?
