The Hinge Point, Revelation 2:18-29
Notes
- Read Revelation 2:18-29. Jesus ultimately gives himself (the morning star) as the reward for those who overcome. Would you say that relationship is the basis of your Christian hope right now or a means to another end?
- The imagery of “Jezebel” points to spiritual unfaithfulness, or giving your allegiance to something other than God. What tends to compete for your ultimate loyalty and affection in your life?
- Pastor Pete mentioned that sin is a hatred of self (and others). What have been some destructive effects of sin you've seen in your own life over the years or even recently?
- Jesus says in v. 21, "I gave her time to repent..." When you consider God's character and his patience toward you, what is he inviting you to turn away from right now? What kind of life is he inviting you to turn towards?
- Jesus warns that personal sin affects others (vv. 21-22). In what ways do we often underestimate how private sin affects the community?
- V. 25 says, "Only hold fast what you have until I come." What would steady endurance and "unglamorous faithfulness" look like in your own current season of life? And how is this different from the dramatic moments we often look for?
- Jesus says that those who overcome will rule with him in vv. 25-26. What a promise! What do you think that means that we'll get to rule with him? And what area of your life do you need to let Jesus rule now?
