The Suffering Church, Revelation 2:8-11, 3:7-13
Notes
- Read Revelation 2:8-11 & 3:7-13. What similarities and differences do you see between these two churches and the specific trials each is facing?
- Jesus tells the church in Smyrna, "Do not fear what you are about to suffer" (2:10). How many reasons can you find in 2:8-11 that Jesus gives for the church to not fear in the midst of their testing?
- For the church in Philadelphia, having been shut out and stripped of power, what would it mean for them to hear from Jesus that they would be a "pillar in the temple of my God" (3:12)?
- Where all do you see God's sovereignty in the letters to these two churches? And what comfort does it bring that God is ultimately behind every test and is strengthening you to be a conquerer?
- What doors have closed in your life that have given you the opportunity to be tested and to witness for Christ?
- How are you doing passing the tests coming your way right now?
